We provide access to urgent medical treatment and legal advice, shelter in safe houses, as well as food, shoes and bedding.

LiveKind Kibera Case Studies 

LiveKind’s first grant project is in Kibera, the largest slum in Africa. It is home to up to one million people. LiveKind Kibera is an emergency service battling gender-based violence and sexual abuse against women and children. We assist with medical treatment, safe houses, legal advice, food, shoes and bedding.

  • Case 1 - A young boy named Mark suffered severe injuries after being repeatedly sodomised by his father. He came to us for help. We ensured that he received medical treatment. He is now recovering and in a safe house.
  • Case 2 - Danielle, a young teenage girl, was raped and needed urgent medical attention and support. Our team took her to hospital, stayed with her, and gave her food to help her with her medication. We also found Danielle a place at a safe house, and supported her with legal help.
  • Case 3 - A 15-year-old girl called Isabelle was raped while doing errands for her family. Our team took her to hospital where she received immediate and on-going medical treatment. We also supported with legal help.
  • Case 4 - Four-year-old Emily had been raped a year before she was referred to us. She had not been offered treatment at the time, and was suffering serious internal injuries. LiveKind took her to hospital and helped access medical treatment.  
  • Case 5 - Penny, 14, was raped and left pregnant. LiveKind helped her access support and secure a safe place for her to live with her new baby.  
  • Case 6 - Thirteen-year-old Miriam was stabbed by a family member and suffered life-threatening injuries. LiveKind took her to hospital where she received specialised treatment, and her life was saved. LiveKind also supported the on-going legal process. 
  • Case 7 - A young boy called John was being abused and starved. He asked for our help. We worked with the District Children's Officer to ensure the necessary permissions, and found a place for him to live in a safe house. Our donors also provided clothes. 
  • Case 8 - Maggie, 14, was raped and left pregnant. Her mother came to us to access support and legal assistance.
  • Case 9 - Young girls Anna and Emilia had been regularly assaulted by their neighbour. We helped with emergency medical treatment after the latest attack in which an attempt was made to strangle one of the girls. We supported the on-going enquiry and legal action.
  • Case 10 - Joanna, a young girl, was being abused at home. Her injuries included burns from a hot knife placed on a stove. We helped her get medical help and access safety in a safe house.
  • Case 11 - We were alerted by a school to the case of severe abuse of a very young boy called David. We helped secure a place for him in a safe house.
  • Case 12 - Young Alex was abused by a family member. LiveKind worked with the District Children's Officer to ensure his safety. Alex now stays with a relative who took him in as his own.
  • Case 13 - A lady named Margo was violently attacked with a machete. We took her to hospital where she received treatment. We also assisted with the police enquiry.
  • Case 14 - Georgina, 11, was sexually assaulted. Community members called LiveKind, who helped her access emergency medical treatment and support. We also helped return Georgina to the safety of her family, and supported the on-going police process. 
  • Case 15 - Thirteen-year-old Dolores was abused by her guardian. LiveKind worked with the District Children’s Officer to find her a safe house to stay at.
  • Case 16 - LiveKind was contacted by a local school to assist with the case of 8-year-old Sarah who was lured by friends to run away from home. She was lost and vulnerable to gender-based violence. LiveKind assisted in taking Sarah to a safe house.
  • Case 17 - LiveKind was contacted by community members to help Samuel, a young boy being abused and locked up. We assisted in taking him to hospital.
  • Case 18 - Thirteen-year-old Gloria had been abused by an alcoholic parent. LiveKind helped her access a safe house and legal support.
  • Case 19 - Two young children, Adam and Agnes, had been abandoned by a family member and were vulnerable to gender-based violence. LiveKind helped them access a safe house place. 
  • Case 20 - A physically disabled boy called Jake was abandoned by his parent and at risk of further gender-based violence. LiveKind rescued him and took him to a safe house.
  • Case 21 - Six-year-old Daniel was abused by a family member and suffered severe injuries. LiveKind assisted by taking him to hospital for treatment.
  • Case 22 - A child named Esther was being abused by a parent. LiveKind secured a safe house space and alerted the relevant authorities, so that that the perpetrator could be apprehended.
  • Case 23 - Deborah, a child, was being abused by a parent. LiveKind helped her access a safe house, and alerted the relevant authorities.
  • Case 24 - Young Alia was physically abused by a relative. LiveKind worked with the District Children’s Officer to address the case and access a safe house place.
  • Case 25 - Young twins Patrick and Paul were being abused. LiveKind assisted in ensuring they were taken to a safe house.
  • Case 26 - We were alerted to the case of a 15-year-old girl left to live on her own. Chantal had been subject to previous sexual assault from a neighbour and was at on-going risk. We secured a safe house space, and helped to appoint a social worker to monitor her case and safety.
  • Case 27 - Vera, 14, was abused by a family member. LiveKind, together with her class teacher, helped offer her a safe house space, and reported the case to the District Children's Officer, so that a legal case was started.
  • Case 28 - We were notified of a young baby whose life was in danger and who was at risk of abuse and gender-based violence in an illicit ‘brew den’. Our team rescued Eber, who was extremely sick, and took him to hospital. After significant treatment, Eber survived and was placed in a safe house.
  • Case 29 - We were asked by the police to assist with a case of two girls who had been assaulted by their father. LiveKind helped Rachel and Amy access emergency medical treatment and other on-going support.
  • Case 30 - A lady called Katy was suffering severe domestic violence almost daily. We helped her to receive medical attention, and provided her with safe house options.
  • Case 31 - A husband was withholding children, including a breastfeeding baby, from their mother, Sophie. We helped in the process of reuniting Sophie and her children.
  • Case 32 - A lady called our Angel Officers late at night to ask for help with severe domestic violence, which was also directed at children. Our team worked with the police to provide emergency support and a safe place for Emma and her children.
  • Case 33 - Irene was physically assaulted by her husband, and called for emergency help. Our team worked with the police to provide emergency support and to ensure that she was able to be in a safe place.
  • Case 34 - Angelica was being physically abused by her husband. She came to us with head and back injuries. We ensured she received the necessary medical treatment, and she became well enough to work again.
  • Case 35 - A young mother called Frances was being physically abused by her alcoholic husband. The Area Chief summoned LiveKind, who assisted in finding her a safe place to stay.
  • Case 36 - Christina, a young mother, was the victim of domestic violence. LiveKind helped her access legal services to protect her, and helped her to travel from where she was to a safe place with family.
  • Case 37 - Joan, a young mother, was being regularly abused by her husband, including being whipped by him. With his family, he took Joan's children and withheld them from her. LiveKind worked with the Local Chief’s Office to help return Joan's children to her.
